Ludmila Gancova is an award winning self-taught textile artist living in Middleton, Wisconsin.
She started experimenting with fabrics nearly 15 years ago and developed her own unique style of creating stitched landscapes. Her art is created with layers of carefully selected fabrics of different textures, such as cotton, silk, polyester, hand dyed cheesecloth, or tulle. First, the fabric pieces are secured with free motion stitching and then the details are added with a variety of threads (variegated cotton thread, metallic, rayon, polyester thread) to create depth and texture.
Ludmila is inspired by nature and likes to capture seasonal changes in her works. Most of her pieces are based on photographs from her daily walks or family vacations.
Her work has been published in several magazines, such as Art Quilting Studio, Sew Somerset, Sew & Tell, and also in the book “Stitched Journeys with Birds” by Martha Sielman.
